Malabsorption and Osteoporosis

What is osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a disease that thins and weakens bones to the point where they may break easily. This disease most often causes fractures of the bones of the hip, spine, and wrist.

Malabsorption is a universal problem in IC patients. Our digestive systems are not in a fit state to digest or absorb food well. As a result we develop multiple nutritional deficiencies. The brain and immune system cannot function properly without adequate nutrition. As a result of nutritional deficiencies, these patients are at risk of develop osteoporosis.

When  eating a nutrient dense diet, patients bones start getting heavier, the bone structure being rebuilding.
